Fort Ward Park-Marlboro Estates Noise Update
July 10, 2008
Prepared by Glenn Eugster
On July 7, 2008 in response to the concerns we raised about the noise levels from park picnic groups Captain Hassan Aden, Sector 3 Commander of the Alexandria City Police Department wrote:
“ I am disturbed at our response to the calls about the noise and would like to see it corrected immediately through policy clarification and the use of noise meters. I believe that the noise permits actually indicate the decibel levels allowed-any violation of the decibel levels should be clearly indicated to the noise source with a request to lower the noise. I believe that if the violation continues-the permit can be pulled. It has been a while since I have dealt with this issue and have sought to have it clarified by George McAndrews, of the City Attorney's Office. I will get a very clear interpretation of the ordinance and allowable police actions in response to violations.
Let me assure you that we will do everything allowable by law to curb these violations and get the noise either lowered or stopped. Thanks for bringing this to my attention”.
