surround it [Ball] property are small colored houses that are in bad
condition.”
Commissioner’s Report re Chancery No. 10208
“property … is identical property which was conveyed to Jacob Ball by Deed
dated Sept. 7, 1912 and of record in Deed Book N, No. 7, p 430 of the Fairfax
County, Virginia Land Records.”
Decree confirming sale of J. Ball property to Richard L and Mary E H Ruffner for
$3,000 (at auction), paid to V. Floyd Williams and J. Randolph F. Davis,
special commissioner’s of sale
Description: Property begins at NE line of Old Braddock Road, said stake being N. 73 degrees 18’ West 10.58 feet from a set stone at SW corner of the property of Robert Adams; thence with the NE line of said road, N. 73 degrees 18’ West 89.96 feet to a stake, then departing from said road N. 2 degrees 25’ W 369.62 feet to a stake; thence S. 2 degrees 25’ E 399.08 feet along the west side of the road which leads to School House, to the point of beginning, containing ¾ of an acre a shown upon the plat attached to deed dated Sept. 7, 1912 and recorded at Fairfax County, Virginia Court House in Liber N, #7, page 430.

Ruffners purchased the property at public auction on April 12, 1960
Davis-Ruffner Title Corp., dated Jan 1, 1959 and signed by City Collector, Case No. 29066, regarding payment of taxes, describes Jacob Ball property as Lot __, Block 4, on Alexandria Assessment Map 3953 and says it is a portion of the Harriet Shorts property
Jacob Ball deed of sale to Ruffners received in Clerks Office of the Corp. Court of City of Alexandria on Apr 22, 1960
Final decree re Chancery No. 10208 is dated May 11, 1960
Ruffners sell the property to David and Bertha Schrott on May 17, 1960, for $3,100; Inst. No. 2085
Schrotts sell property, identified as Lot 3953-4, on Aug 7, 1962 to City of Alexandria for $5,000; Case No. 40659
